The Deadly Choices Foundation supports the implementation and expansion of the Deadly Choices preventative health program. This sub-fund is designed to build an enduring source of funding through a return on investment of the perpetual funding to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia.
Deadly Choices is an initiative of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH) and it empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families such as stop smoking, eat good food and connect with their local Community Health Service for an annual health check.
This initiative has generated over 23,000 health checks and nearly 10,000 new patients in SEQ (these numbers refer to Indigenous people accessing the service/program) since it was established in 2010.
Deadly Choices is closing the health and life expectancy gap for Indigenous Australians and supporting the Deadly Choices Foundation via this sub fund will allow us to expand our services even further to continue to bridge the divide for years to come.
